Clobetasol Propionate, Tolnaftate Ketoconazole, Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline, and Neomycin Cream – Clobetasol Propionate + Tolnaftate + Ketoconazole + Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline + Neomycin cream is a combination of five main ingredients and comes under the brand name “Ketogen-KT 5”.

It is an antifungal medication primarily used to manage various skin infections caused by a bacteria and fungi such as dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, and rash. It belongs to a class of medication known as Topical Anti-Infectives with corticosteroids and is also prescribed to reduce the symptoms associated with these conditions such as redness, itchiness, and inflammation. 

Fungal infections usually occur with an overgrowth of fungi in or on the body. Hence, an antibiotic medicine is prescribed to stop the spread or multiplication of fungi and bacteria and treat your skin effectively.

How Do Clobetasol Propionate, Tolnaftate Ketoconazole, Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline, and Neomycin Cream Work?

Clobetasol Propionate, Tolnaftate, Ketoconazole, Iodochlohydroxyquinoline, and Neomycin have antibacterial and antifungal properties. All the ingredients work together in treating skin infections by killing the growth and destroying the cell membrane of the fungi. 

Clobetasol Propionate is a steroid, Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline is an antifungal agent that interacts with the DNA synthesis, thus killing the fungi,  whereas Neomycin is an antibiotic that stops bacterial growth. 

All these ingredients function by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that make the skin red, and swollen, thereby treating a variety of fungal and bacterial infections. 

Uses of Clobetasol Propionate, Tolnaftate Ketoconazole, Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline, and Neomycin Cream

The combination of Clobetasol Propionate, Tolnaftate, Ketoconazole, Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline, and Neomycin in a cream can be used for conditions that involve both inflammation and infection, such as:

  • Clobetasol is a corticosteroid that is effective in treating inflammatory skin conditions. It is effective in reducing inflammation, itching, and redness response on the skin.
  • Tolnaftate has antifungal properties and is and is used to treat superficial fungal infections of the skin (dermatitis, eczema). It works by inhibiting the growth of fungi and preventing the spread of fungal infections.
  • Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication that is used to treat various fungal skin infections. It works by inhibiting the growth of fungi by destroying its cell membrane.
  • Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline is an antiseptic with antifungal, and antibacterial, properties. It has broad-spectrum antimicrobial action and is effective against a variety of pathogens, particularly those found in skin infections.
  • Neomycin is also an antibiotic that treats a variety of bacterial skin by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth of bacteria.

Side Effects 

This Clobetasol Propionate, Tolnaftate Ketoconazole, Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline, and Neomycin Cream is generally considered safe for application. But like any topical medication, this too may possess some potential risks and side effects. It includes:

  • Skin irritation
  • Redness, and itching at the application site 
  • Stinging or burning sensation at the application site
  • Rash
